10 Over 90 | The 2016 Halliday Wine Companion

Dolan March2015 117

The recent release of the much-awaited James Halliday Australian Wine Companion has once again been kind to us.

For a winery, there is no wine review publication with more credibility than this one. It’s sort of like the Brownlow medal for wines. In 2014 we were fortunate enough to be awarded “Best New Winery” and the repercussions from that were enormous. The award catapulted our brand squarely into the spotlight and likely achieved the same results in terms of brand awareness as a million-dollar marketing campaign.

This year a huge 10 of our wines scored 90 points or above and we were also awarded the highest possible rating of 5 red stars, a reward for consistently producing wines of high quality.

Chardonnay stole the show with both our White Label and True Colours earning 95 points each, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz were hot on their heels with 94 points each (scroll below for the full list).

A BIG thank you is of course owed to our amazing Growers for providing excellent fruit year in and year out.

2014 White Label Chardonnay | 95 Points – “Quality gear..the general quality of fruit and the extension of flavour through the finish firmly establishes its class. Grapefruit, pear, apple and oatmeal notes melt into spice and sweet sawdust. Both elegant and seductive”.

2014 True Colours Chardonnay | 95 Points – “Beautiful balance and composure. Everything in its place, everything delivered at the right time. Peach, chalk, citrus and spicy oak with lactose notes wafting throughout. Terrific value”.

2014 White Label Pinot Noir | 94 Points – “From the Upper Yarra Willowlake Vineyard.. Bright colour, and a fragrant cherry and plum bouquet; the palate is long and insistent, with tangy bright red fruit flavours. Merits time in bottle, but no crime in drinking it tonight”.

2013 White Label Shiraz | 94 Points – “Black cherry, pepper and spice aromas lead directly into the fore-palate”.

2013 White Label Cabernet Sauvignon | 94 Points – “An elegant, medium-bodied Cabernet, reflecting its cool-grown origins with laid back blackcurrant fruit, fine-grained tannins and a touch of black olive, oak in restraint. Drink whenever the mood takes you, cellaring not required”.

2013 White Label Pinot Noir | 92 Points – “Good colour.. gently savoury, dark plum and cherry fruit”.

2014 True Colours Sauvignon Blanc Semillon | 92 Points – “Purity of fruit is the key. This is fresh and crisp but it has enough body to mull over. Lemongrass, citrus, passionfruit and gravel. Mouthwatering but simultaneously textural and soft”.

2013 White Label Pinot Gris | 91 Points – “Pale salmon colour. Crisp, fresh and spicy with lemon, pear and talc running through the palate. Purity plus”.

2013 White Label Bon Blanc | 91 Points – “Spice and cumquat flavours, with a long, dry finish”.

2013 True Colours Cabernet Shiraz Merlot | 90 Points – “Currants and peppered cherries make an interesting flavour combination. Distinctive. It’s a wine of freshness and life with just enough sweet fruit, before olivey, clovey, leafy notes give the finish a savouriness”.
